Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Nick Lewis

Men’s Basketball marches past Marymount (Va.)

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team bounced back from a slow offensive start, scoring 48 points in the second half to pick up a 67-59 victory over the Marymount University Saints on Wednesday evening inside Maggs Gymnasium.

Brendan Davis got the Sea Gulls (12-5) on the board just over a minute into the contest, depositing a feed from Jordan Oates from beyond the arc to give SU an early 3-2 lead. The game's next score came over three minutes later, giving Marymount a 4-3 go-ahead through five minutes.

A Kedrick Frink dash to the cup restored a one-point lead before the Saints (7-6) tallied five straight points, leading 9-5 through not quite 10 minutes. Oates snapped a near-three-minute scoreless streak with his first basket of the game before Daniel Oyediran found bottom on a turnaround jumper to tie the game at nine.

An even 4-4 split of the ensuing eight points gave way to a 4-0 Sea Gull run, establishing a 17-13 lead with just under five minutes left in the contest's opening stanza. The Saints ended a four-minute scoreless drought with a jumper before Davis logged a twofer trip at the stripe, setting the halftime line at 19-15.

The shots started falling for both sides early in the second half, with the foes playing to a 14-13 split in favor of SU led by seven points from Oates and six from Davis that granted the hosts a 33-28 lead. Salisbury took hold of the momentum across the next four minutes, rolling out a 12-4 run to lead 45-32 with just over 11 minutes left.

Patrick Wynne kept the wheels turning for Salisbury, scoring five quick points to help SU outscore the Saints 8-4 over the ensuing three minutes. An 11-6 Saint run narrowed the lead to 11 with just five minutes to play, but a 5-0 Sea Gull stretch helped put the game out of reach to land at the eventual 67-59 final tally.
