No. 5 Football soars on Senior Day over William Paterson

SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 5 Salisbury University football program earned a 51-7 Senior Day victory over William Paterson University Saturday afternoon inside Sea Gull Stadium. This class contributed to 34 wins since the start of the 2022 season, two New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships, and two NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite 8 appearance last season.

The Sea Gulls (8-0, 5-0 NJAC) wasted no time putting points on the board by taking the opening kickoff from the Pioneers (2-6, 1-4 NJAC) back to the house. Isaiah Hill scooped up a short kick and took it back 70 yards on the opening play of the game.

The first offensive drive for SU ended in a Jadyn Thomas three-yard touchdown run after a seven-play drive, giving the Sea Gulls a 14-0 edge just five minutes into the contest. The next Pioneers drive was halted by an interception from Patrick Sheil, which resulted in a 55-yard touchdown pass from SyRus McGowan to Micah Brubaker. SU led 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Midway through the second quarter, the Pioneers were set to punt from their own 10-yard line when they muffed the snap, and Jayson Gary took down the William Paterson punter in the endzone for a safety.

Mason Fisher would cap off an 11-play drive after the safety with a four-yard touchdown run. SU would end the half with a two-play drive after Brubaker rushed for 54 yards, setting up a two-yard touchdown run from Darrell Walter. The Sea Gulls headed into halftime with a commanding 37-0 lead.

The SU offense continued its dominance in the second half with another touchdown from Thomas, this time from 18 yards out. Luke Orner added to the totals with a two-yard rushing touchdown early in the fourth.

Game Notes
- McGowan finished with 109 yards passing, with the touchdown going six of nine.
