GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team was defeated 88-63 on Friday night by the Washington and Lee University Generals in both teams' opening game of the Messiah Tip-Off Tournament.
The Generals (1-0) bolted out to a 12-0 lead to start the contest.
Daniel Oyediran got the Sea Gulls (1-2) on the board with a mid-range jumpshot.
Calvin Thomas led the way for the Maroon and Gold with six points heading into the breather, trailing 42-20.
Tyler Ball and
Jamison Graves provided the scoring in the second frame for SU. Graves scored 13 of Salisbury's 15 points from the 15:23 mark to the 10:45 mark, making five free throws and three field goals. Ball proved to be steady throughout the segment, nailing a three at the beginning of the half and tacking on two more triples in the waning minutes while piling up 15 points to give himself 17 points altogether on the evening.
GAME NOTES
- Graves led the way for the Sea Gulls with 18 points and shot six for 15 from the field and six of seven from the line.
- Ball surpassed his previous career-high of nine and gathered two steals.
- Thomas finished with ten points and reached double-digits in back-to-back games for the first time in his SU career.
- The Sea Gulls shot 40.4 percent from the floor, hit four threes and shot 65.4 percent (17-of-26) from the free throw line.
The Sea Gulls play Messiah in the consolation game of the Messiah Tip-Off Tournament at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
