No. 13 Football earns NCAA Second Round win over No. 15 Endicott

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 13 Salisbury University football program picked up a 35-28 NCAA Tournament Second Round win over No. 15 Endicott College Saturday afternoon inside Sea Gull Stadium.

After Salisbury (10-1) elected to receive, both offenses posted three-and-outs on their first drives of the ball game. The Endicott (9-2) defense could not hold the SU offense for long. On the second offensive drive for the Sea Gulls, Dario Belizaire scampered for 42 yards and the first score of the game.

After the SU defense forced another punt, the offense posted a four-play scoring drive with SyRus McGowan running for 64 yards into the endzone. The Gulls of Endicott would capitalize on an interception and post a 13-play drive, making the score 13-7 in the second quarter.

Salisbury answered with an eight-play drive, once again capped off by a 15-yard touchdown run from McGowan. The Sea Gulls led the Gulls 20-7 at the half.

The Endicott Gulls came out strong in the second half, posting back-to-back scores and taking a 21-20 lead with just under eight minutes remaining in the third quarter of action.

SU would answer with a 10-play touchdown drive with McGowan earning his third rushing score of the game. Mason Fisher scampered in for the two-point conversion, giving the Sea Gulls a pivotal 28-21 lead with two and a half minutes left in the third quarter.

After a muffed punt by Salisbury, Endicott would take advantage of the short field and tie things up 28-28 as the teams headed to the final quarter of play. The Sea Gulls started the fourth quarter with an eight-play scoring drive, this time through the air from McGowan to Belizaire from 23 yards out.

After taking the seven-point lead, the Salisbury defense stood tall. They posted three stops, which included a fourth-and-goal stop from the one-yard line for Endicott. Jimmy Celentano busted through the Endicott offensive line, making a tackle for loss and helping secure the NCAA Second Round win for SU.
