Women’s Soccer outlasted by No. 14 CNU in C2C semifinals

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team (6-11-5) concluded its 2025 campaign on Friday afternoon, suffering a 1-0 defeat at the hands of No. 14 Christopher Newport University in the semifinal round of the C2C Tournament at the Gerry DiBartolo Sea Gull Soccer Complex.

The Captains capitalized on a foul in the 23rd minute, scoring off a direct free-kick moments later. Riley Kinzeler went on to deny the next seven CNU tries, shutting out the Captains' attack entirely in the second half.

In the 27th minute, the Sea Gulls found their best scoring chance of the afternoon when Alex Jankowski headed a Samantha Root corner kick in the direction of the CNU cage, but Amy Sidaway made the diving save.

The CNU attack controlled the pace of play in the second frame, outshooting the Sea Gulls 10-2 and keeping the Maroon and Gold at bay until the final whistle.

With the victory, Christopher Newport (13-1-3) advances to Sunday's C2C Championship game against the Banana Slugs of the University of California, Santa Cruz (6-8-2), in a rematch of last year's C2C Championship. Kickoff from the Gerry DiBartolo Sea Gull Soccer Complex is scheduled for 10 a.m.
