Men's Soccer outlasted by No. 20 CNU in C2C Championship

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Salisbury University men's soccer program fell 1-0 in the Coast-to-Coast Conference Championship game against No. 20 Christopher Newport University Sunday afternoon on Captains Field. This was the first Conference Championship appearance for the program since 2015. 

The game was evenly matched all the way through, as both teams tallied six shots in the first half, as well as a corner each. Michelangelo Parravano tallied the first chance of the game for the Sea Gulls (9-6-5) in the seventh minute, which was saved by the Captain's (12-2-5) keeper. Both teams also tallied yellow cards in the first half of the physical title bout. 

CNU ramped up the pace in the second half, earning three more corners than SU but only outshooting them eight shots to seven. Nicolas Chinchilla posted a shot on goal in the 70th minute, giving the Sea Gulls a chance to go out in front, but the shot was stopped. In the 78th minute of the contest, the Captains broke the tie. 

The Sea Gulls posted three shots after the Captain's goal but were not able to equalize late in the championship game. 

Game Notes
- SU finished with 13 shots, CNU posted 14. Five of those shots were on target the the Gulls, while six of the CNU shots were on target. 
- The corner kick tally ended with six for CNU and three for SU.
- Nate Jones finished with five saves.
David BrunettiLiam Pierce, and Connor Pyles also posted shots on goal for SU. 

The Sea Gulls finish the season with a 9-6-5 record, a C2C Tournament Championship appearance, five All-Conference honorees, including the C2C Rookie of the Year in Brunetti.
