Women's Basketball falls against No. 24 Shenandoah

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University women's basketball program fell 79-57 against No. 24 Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon inside Maggs Gymnasium. 

The Sea Gulls (7-4) got on the board first as the teams traded baskets for the first seven minutes of the first quarter. After trailing 13-12, the Hornets (9-1) finished the quarter on a 16-3 run and earned a 28-15 lead heading into the second quarter of action. 

Shenandoah shot 92 percent from the floor in the first quarter and hit three three-pointers. Salisbury shot 50 percent from the floor in the first and carried that into the second quarter, where they shot 54 percent overall, while shooting three of four from three-point range. The teams tied 17-17 in the second, and the Sea Gulls headed into halftime down by 13. 

The shooting for both teams cooled off in the second half of play, with neither team shooting above 50 percent from the floor in the second half. The Hornets were able to build on their first-half lead and pull away, outscoring the Sea Gulls 17-15 in the third, and 17-10 in the fourth and final period of play. Jen Juhring led the Sea Gulls with 14 points while Keturah Stewart posted 13 points. 

Game Notes
- Abby Plaugher and Kayla Nieberlein combined for 17 points and 12 rebounds. 
- The Hornets won the rebound battle 36-21. 
- Salisbury tallied 32 points in the paint while Shenandoah tallied 42. 

Salisbury will now head to the Puerto Rico Tournament, where they take on King's College (Pa.) on Sunday, December 28th at 3 p.m. before taking on Western Connecticut State the following day at 1 p.m.
