GETTYSBURG, Pa. –
Brice Bromwell and
Riley Strub starred for the third-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team in a gritty 12-11 win at No. 12 Gettysburg on Saturday morning, combining for seven goals and six assists in the triumph on Shirk Field.
Ryan Della opened the scoring for the Sea Gulls (4-0) five minutes into the opening frame, burying a feed from Strub for the early lead. The two defensive units dominated the bulk of the first stanza before the Bullets (1-1) tied the match up at one in the final three minutes of the quarter.
Michael Leahy and Strub got SU off to a hot start in the second period, needing just 79 seconds to turn feeds from Bromwell and
Connor Herraiz into a 3-1 lead. The Bullets responded to the Sea Gull blitz with a four-goal run of their own to lead 5-3 with seven minutes to go in the first half.
Two connections from Bromwell to Strub sandwiched
Blake Malamphy's second goal of the campaign, catapulting SU back in front by one before a late GC goal tied the battle at six through 30 minutes.
The Sea Gulls thumped their stamp on the third quarter, posting a trio of goals while blanking the Bullets to lead 9-6 heading into the final period of action. Bromwell was involved in each of SU's three tallies, scoring the first before assisting a man-up Strub goal and dumping in a feed from
Ty Keaton to fuel the fire.
Herraiz pushed SU's run to four straight scores with a finish not quite four minutes into the fourth. The Bullets netted five goals in the final nine minutes, but Bromwell set up Della's second goal before his second solo goal helped Salisbury endure the late push from Gettysburg to secure the 12-11 win.
