Men’s Basketball falls to UMW in C2C semifinals

SALISBURY, Md. – The second-seeded Salisbury University men's basketball team saw its run in the 2025 Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Championships end in the semifinal round, falling by a 60-50 decision to the third-seeded Eagles of Mary Washington on Friday evening inside Maggs Gymnasium.

The Eagles (12-14) ended a nearly two-minute scoreless stretch to open the contest with five of the first seven points, sandwiching a Leon Elung finish through three minutes. The Sea Gulls (16-10) battled in the ensuing four minutes, trading baskets with the Eagles to close the gap to two, 10-8.

The seesawing continued throughout much of the half, with neither side scoring consecutive baskets from the floor for over eight minutes to set up a 19-17 UMW advantage. Back-to-back UMW jumpers widened the margin to 23-17, but SU closed the half on a 9-3 run headlined by four points from Kedrick Frink to tie the battle through 20 minutes, 26-26.

The Eagles opened the second period with a 6-2 swing before Jayden Johnson connected from deep to bring the battle back within one, 32-31. UMW converted a three-point play nearly two minutes later, but the Sea Gulls responded with a 6-2 swing to return the deadlock, 37-37.

A 5-5 split between the foes established a 42-42 tie with 9:12 remaining in the contest. After over four scoreless minutes, the Eagles rolled out an 8-0 run to sprint ahead with under three minutes to go, 50-42.

UMW narrowly outscored the Sea Gulls in the final minutes, 10-8, to secure the 60-50 final score and advance to Saturday's C2C Championship game against top-seeded Christopher Newport at 7 p.m.
