Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Nick Lewis

Harrington’s career day leads No. 5 Women’s Lacrosse past Washington (Md.)

SALISBURY, Md. – The fifth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team used a mammoth second half and a banner day by Audrey Harrington to secure a 20-6 victory over the Washington College Shorewomen on Saturday afternoon in Sea Gull Stadium.

The Shorewomen (1-3) scored the first goal of the matchup from the eight-meter, a tally that was answered 38 seconds later when Alexandra Parker connected with Miranda Mears for the opening Sea Gull score. Regan McDonnell and Grace Doyle sandwiched a Harrington delivery to Carly Hoffman with player-up markers to lead by three, 4-1.

The Sea Gulls (3-1) responded to WAC's second score just before the first stanza's conclusion with back-to-back goals to open the second, both solo scores from the sticks of Parker and Julianna Ott, to build a 6-2 lead with 13:26 left in the half. Washington outscored SU by a 3-1 margin over the next seven minutes to tighten the contest, 7-5.

SU closed the half with a furious four-goal rally, kicked off by a Harrington score before a patented Mears rocket from the eight. Harrington distributed a helper to Liz Haney before McDonnell stepped up and slung in a free-position finish, giving the maroon and gold an 11-5 lead at the break.

Harrington wrote her name all over a 6-0 third quarter for Salisbury, getting involved in four of the six scores. She began the quarter with a feed to Doyle before calling her own number for the third time, widening the margin to eight at 13-5.

Ott led Mears to her third score before Harrington finds of Doyle and Mears pushed the margin to 11, 16-5. Hoffman aided Ott for SU's 17th goal of the bout to wrap the third frame.

Two Sea Gulls – Ally Mathis and Leah Doy – logged their first collegiate goals in the fourth quarter. Avery Dunbar notched her first career assist, while three freshmen – Sydney Block, Raegan King, and Molly Millman – caused their first career turnovers late in the matchup to help secure the 20-6 win.
