No. 13 Softball earns win over WPI

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 13 Salisbury University softball program picked up an 8-6 win over Worcester Polytechnic Institute Friday afternoon inside Margie Knight Sea Gull Softball Stadium.

The Sea Gulls got the bats going early off a two-out double from Karlie Wolfe, scoring Carrie Jacoby and Ellen Stockman. SU added another in the second inning once again with two outs after Alayna Gigliotti blasted a solo shot into left field.

SU added three more in the third as Sam Flowers led off with a double and would come around to score off a Jacoby single. Lexie Delcollo came around to score on an error after pinch-running. El. Stockman would also come around to score off an RBI single from Emily Stockman.

The Engineers tallied one in the fifth before scoring five runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game. Salisbury would answer immediately as Morgan Moxley doubled to score Em. Stockton pushing the Sea Gulls back out in front. Moxley would come around to score on an RBI single from Gigliotti to extend the lead.

SU led 8-6 heading into the seventh and called on Sydney Adolfson, who started the game, to close it out. Adolfson tallied two strikeouts in four innings of work, only giving up two hits and no earned runs.

  • Gigliotti finished with two hits and two RBIs.
  • Jacoby earned two hits with an RBI.
  • The Sea Gulls have scored six or more runs in six of their nine games so far this season.
  • They have also tallied six or more hits in eight games this season.
The Sea Gulls will begin the Margie Knight Classic held at Henry S. Parker at 11 a.m. on Saturday, taking on MIT before battling NYU at 1 p.m.
