No. 31 Men’s Tennis knocks off No. 33 Grinnell in California finale

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The 31st-ranked Salisbury University men's tennis team wrapped up its West Coast road trip with a bounce-back effort, besting the 33rd-ranked Grinnell Pioneers 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
 
MATCH NOTES
  • The Sea Gulls secured the doubles point by winning two of the three matchups. Asher Willenborg and Jhayden Pappas took care of first doubles (6-3), while Gianluca Beaujon and Mitchell Desman handled second doubles (6-3).
  • SU got quick victories in fifth and sixth singles, with Nicholas O'Dea (6-3, 6-1) in fifth and Aron Bursztyn (6-2, 6-2) in sixth earning straight-sets victories.
  • Gurv Suri clinched the match for the Sea Gulls from third singles, besting Karch Knoll in three sets (6-1, 3-6, 6-4).
  • Willenborg erased an early hole to triumph in first singles, rallying past Wilder Cooke [6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 6-4].
 
The Sea Gulls will be off for a week before returning to action next Wednesday at Delmarva Peninsula rival Washington College. First serve from Chestertown, Md., is set for 3 p.m.
