SALEM, Va. – The No. 13 Salisbury University softball program picked up another sweep Thursday afternoon taking down Roanoke College 7-0 and 5-1.
For the third straight game and fourth time this season, the Sea Gulls held a team scoreless after taking game one 7-0.
Sydney Adolfson moved to 9-0 on the season with her second straight complete-game shutout. Adolfson tallied three strikeouts while only allowing three hits.
The Sea Gull offense started with a bang as
Emily Challender led the game off with a single to left field followed by another single from
Carrie Jacoby. After Challender was caught stealing, Jacoby would come around to score on an RBI triple from
Emily Stockman. The Sea Gulls held a 1-0 lead until the fourth inning.
SU opened the game up in the fourth inning scoring five runs. Jacoby racked up three RBIs on a triple to highlight the inning. Salisbury also added a run in the fifth to cruise to a 7-0 win.
Game One Notes
- The Sea Gulls racked up 14 hits earning double-digit hits for a third straight game and eighth time overall this season.
- Jacoby finished with four hits and three RBIs.
- Ellen Stockman and Challender earned two hits with an RBI.
- Jillian Dawson tallied two hits while Sam Flowers, Lexie Delcollo, and Morgan Moxley all had a hit each.
The Sea Gull offense struggled to get going in game two but made it happen when it mattered. The Maroons struck first in the bottom of the first and held onto that lead until the fifth inning.
Flowers earned a walk to lead things off in the top of the fifth and would come around to score to tie the game. Jacoby would then earn an RBI on a sacrifice fly scoring Challender giving the Sea Gulls the lead.
Jacoby would also go on to earn another RBI in the seventh scoring Challender off a double to left field. Em. Stockman and Delcollo also added RBIs in the seventh for the Sea Gulls.
Justyce Richard started the game in the circle going four innings only giving up the one earned run in the first with two hits and one strikeout. Adolfson entered the game in the fifth to shut the door on Roanoke.
Game Two Notes
- The Sea Gulls scored three runs on four hits while drawing four walks.
- Flowers drew two of those walks along with a run.
- Jacoby finished with two RBIs while Challender finished with a hit and two runs.
The Sea Gulls are back inside Margie Knight Sea Gull Softball Stadium on Wednesday, March 26th, for a doubleheader against Washington College with game one set for 2:30 p.m
