No. 30 Men’s Tennis splits with Rutgers-Camden, No. 16 JHU

SALISBURY, Md. – The 30th-ranked Salisbury University men's tennis team split a pair of home matches, pummeling the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors 7-0 before bowing to the 16th-ranked Johns Hopkins Blue Jays 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the SU Outdoor Tennis Center.
 
MATCH NOTES vs. RUTGERS-CAMDEN
  • The Sea Gulls rolled to a trio of doubles victories in barely half an hour. Bobby Stabile and Chase Catullo wrapped up second doubles 6-0, as did Tim Holt and Luke Gibbs in third. In first, Russell Willenborg and Christopher Catan breezed to a 6-2 win.
  • Catullo (6-0, 6-0) didn't drop a game in fourth singles against Julian Pinder, while Stabile (6-0, 6-1) in third, Holt (6-1, 6-0) in fifth, and Gibbs (6-0, 6-1) in sixth went a combined 36-3 in their fixtures.
  • Catan (6-2, 6-2) in first singles and Willenborg (6-3, 6-2) in second assured SU of its sixth 7-0 sweep of the year.
 
MATCH NOTES vs. JOHNS HOPKINS
  • Aron Bursztyn and Gurv Suri pulled out a 6-4 win in third doubles, but the Blue Jays took the top two doubles matches to secure the first point.
  • Battling cramping throughout his three-hour first singles match, Asher Willenborg battled tooth-and-nail with JHU's Chakor Rajendra, going up a set before eventually dropping a three-set heartbreaker, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-4), 1-0 (10-7).
 
The Sea Gulls will compete in their third match in two days by hosting Franklin & Marshall on Sunday. First serve from the SU Outdoor Tennis Center is locked in for 1 p.m.
