Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Nick Lewis

No. 6 Women’s Lacrosse shuts down No. 9 York (Pa.), 10-7

YORK, Pa. – The sixth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team stymied the ninth-ranked York College of Pennsylvania Spartans on Saturday afternoon, keeping their foe under five goals for nearly 50 minutes to help secure a 10-7 triumph and the team's second top 10 victory of the campaign.

The Sea Gulls (6-3) tossed in two quick tallies through three minutes, beginning when Lauren Hackett jostled the netting just 102 seconds into her return to the Sea Gull fold. Miranda Mears made good on a feed from Julianna Ott for her 20th goal of the campaign and her team's second of the afternoon at the 12:01 mark.

The Spartans (6-3) nabbed the momentum in the middle minutes, tacking on a pair while forcing three saves from SU net-minder Paige Ellis. Audrey Harrington restored the Sea Gull edge with just under two minutes to go before York, Pa. native Grace Doyle scored in her return home, doubling the SU advantage through 15 minutes.

Harrington's second of the day pushed the margin to three at the 11:21 mark in the second quarter before Avery Dunbar collected her first career goal three minutes later, establishing a four-goal SU lead. A Spartan score in the final minute set the halftime line at 6-3.

Carly Hoffman scored SU's lone third-quarter goal from the eight-meter while the sides combined to cause five turnovers in the defensive dogfight. Ellis stood tall between the pipes, denying five Spartan tries in the stanza.

The duo of Harrington and Doyle returned to the forefront in the final frame, combining for SU's eighth and ninth tallies to extend the lead to five, the largest of the contest. Alexandra Parker nudged the Sea Gulls into double digits to help counteract three Spartan scores and secure the 10-7 victory.
