Oates caps storied Sea Gull career as CSC Academic All-American

Graduate forward becomes 51st Academic All-American in history of SU Athletics

GREENWOOD, Ind. – After posting one of the best seasons in recent memory with the Salisbury University men's basketball team, graduate forward Jordan Oates has earned a place among the elite in SU history, claiming his spot on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Third Team on Tuesday afternoon.

The graduate student boasts a 3.83 grade-point average in SU's M.B.A. program after graduating Magna Cum Laude from his undergraduate studies as a Biomedical Sciences major on the Pre-Dentistry track with a minor in Chemistry. He also serves as the Treasurer for the Caribbean Student Association and an orientation leader on campus while holding membership in both the Chi Alpha Sigma and Phi Eta Sigma honor societies.

His efforts in the classroom have garnered four consecutive CSC Academic All-District selections, back-to-back Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Scholar-Athlete of the Year nods in 2022-23 and 2023-24 and SU's 2023-24 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor. In the community, Oates joined his team's efforts at the Hope and Life Outreach (HALO) Shelter in Salisbury while volunteering in other service efforts as well.

On the court, Oates capped off his illustrious Sea Gull career with his best campaign yet as a Sea Gull, averaging career-highs in points (17.6) and rebounds (12.5) while leading the C2C in rebounding for the third consecutive season. The post threat claimed numerous spots in the national statistical rankings, finishing second in Division III in double-doubles (21, career-high), fourth in total rebounds (363, career-high), seventh in rebounds per game, 27th in blocks (53, career-high) and 44th in blocks per game (1.83, career-high). His development on the defensive end of the floor was rewarded with the 2024-25 C2C Defensive Player of the Year award.

Oates soared up the program record books in 2024-25, thoroughly leaving his mark on Sea Gull basketball as the third player in program history behind only the great Andre Foreman '92 and Howard Shockley '76 to record 1,500 career points and 1,200 career rebounds. He ranks fifth in team history in scoring (1,528) and fourth in rebounds (1,216) while occupying second in offensive rebounds (341) and third all-time in blocks (116).

The Hanover, Md. native and Atholton High School product is the 51st student-athlete in the history of Salisbury University athletics to be crowned an Academic All-American, standing as the sole SU player to receive the honor thus far in the 2024-25 academic year. Oates is just the second player in team history to earn Academic All-America recognition after Lucas Martin '20 made the third team in his final season in maroon and gold.
Salisbury University is a proud member of NCAA Division III with primary membership in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference, along with affiliate membership in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (football, men's & women's swimming) and the Coastal Lacrosse Conference (men's lacrosse). With over 500 student-athletes in 23 varsity sports, SU is recognized as one of the nation's most competitive intercollegiate athletics programs regardless of division, featuring dedicated coaches and staff that foster excellence on and off the field. The Sea Gulls have won a combined 23 team national championships, 24 individual national championships, and 202 conference championships, and have produced 51 Academic All-Americans.
