YORK, Pa. – The No. 8 Salisbury University softball program picked up a mid-week sweep over York College (Pa.) Wednesday afternoon inside Spartan Stadium. The Sea Gulls took game one 8-0 in six innings before taking down the Spartans 11-7 in game two.
In the six-inning game one win for the Sea Gulls,
Sydney Adolfson tied her career-high in strikeouts with seven while only allowing one hit.
The SU offense scored a run in every inning but the first, with one run in the second, third, fourth, and fifth before exploding for four runs in the sixth.
Jillian Dawson earned an RBI in the second while
Morgan Moxley tallied two in the early innings.
The Sea Gulls loaded the bases in the sixth for
Lexie Delcollo to rack up three RBIs on a double. Adolfson put the Spartans down in order in the bottom of the inning to end the game early.
Game One Notes
- Adolfson picks up her 15th win of the season while also recording a hit at the plate.
- Carrie Jacoby tallied a two-hit game.
- Sam Flowers earned a hit, two runs, and three stolen bases.
In the game two win, SU had to work from behind after York posted a run in the first and second innings. The Sea Gull offense erupted for four runs in the third to regain a 4-2 lead.
Dawson led off the inning with a single and came around to score on a passed ball, while
Emily Stockman and
Ellen Stockman both earned RBIs in the inning.
The Spartans responded in the bottom of the third with three runs to take back the lead 5-4. SU was able to tie it up in the fifth on a two-out rally.
Justyce Richard singled to left field and would come around to score on a Moxley RBI single.
Emily Challender gave SU the lead in the sixth with a solo home run to lead off the inning. This propelled the Sea Gulls to a four-run inning, opening up a 9-5 lead. They went on to add two more runs in the seventh, which included a sacrifice fly from Em. Stockman and Flowers stealing home for her sixth steal of the day.
Game Two Notes
- Challender finished with two hits, three runs, and an RBI.
- El. Stockman earned the win in the circle with four strikeouts in three innings of work. She also tallied a hit and an RBI at the plate.
- Flowers finished with three stolen bases again and three runs.
- Em. Stockman finished with three RBIs.
- Karlie Wolfe, Dawson, and Richard finished with two-hit games.
The Sea Gulls are back home inside Margie Knight Sea Gull Softball Stadium on Wednesday, April 23rd, when they battle Stevenson University with game one of the doubleheader set for 3 p.m.
