No. 8 Softball sweeps Stevenson

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 8 Salisbury University softball program swept Stevenson University Wednesday afternoon inside Margie Knight Sea Gull Softball Stadium. The Sea Gulls took game one 5-0 before rolling past the Mustangs 6-2 in game two.

In game one, Sydney Adolfson earned her 16th win of the season with another complete game shutout while tying her career-high in strikeouts with seven.

The Sea Gull offense capitalized on a couple of Mustang errors in the bottom of the first to earn an early lead. They tacked on another run in the third after Carrie Jacoby led things off with a double to left field. Taylor Scott, who pinch ran for Jacoby, would come around to score on a bunt from Ellen Stockman.

Jacoby would start another rally in the 5th with yet another double down the left field line. Emily Stockman followed that up with an RBI single to score Jaocby. SU scored another in the inning on an error from Stevenson.

Madison Lepeonka singled in the sixth in a pinch-hit opportunity, which would lead to another run after a double from Em. Stockman.

Game One Notes
  • Adolfson tallied her 13th complete game and her 5th shutout. Her ERA sits at 1.08.
  • Jacoby and Em. Stockman finished with two hits each, while Em. Stockman posted two RBIs.
  • Jillian Dawson, Alayna Gigliotti, and Morgan Moxley all posted a hit each.
In the game two win, the Sea Gull offense stayed hot in the early innings, posting three runs in the bottom of the first. All three runs came with two outs as Em. Stockman started the rally with a double and would score off a double from her sister El. Stockman.

Sam Flowers earned a single and then helped the Sea Gulls score another with a double steal between her and El. Stockman, who stole home. Justyce Richard, who earned the win in the circle for SU, helped her case with an RBI double to score Flowers, giving Salisbury an early 3-0 lead.

The Mustangs would tack on two runs in the second, which proved to be the only runs they would score in the game.

SU added three insurance runs in the sixth. Dawson, Emily Challender, and Jacoby all singled to start the inning, with Jacoby's single scoring Dawson. El. Stockman then drove in two runs with a double to left field.

El. Stockman came in to pitch in the seventh to close the game out. She tallied two strikeouts before giving up a double where the Mustang batter would eventually be thrown out at third on a relay from Flowers, Gigliotti, and Challender.
