GALLOWAY, N.J. – The second-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team improved to a perfect 12-0 in the 2025 campaign on Wednesday evening, using a nine-goal second quarter to pull away from the Stockton University Ospreys in its second Coastal Lacrosse Conference (CLC) bout of the season, 21-7.
Chris Wong powered a 4-0 Sea Gull start to the affair, following
Ty Keaton's opening strike with consecutive punch-ins before
Bryce Stevenson netted his third pole goal of the campaign to establish the early edge.
Connor Herraiz found Keaton at the 2:07 mark to answer Stockton's first goal, setting the score at 5-1 through 15 minutes.
The Ospreys (7-6, 0-2 CLC) opened the second stanza with back-to-back goals to draw the wrath of the Sea Gulls, who promptly unleashed an eight-goal run in just over five minutes to break the game open, 13-3.
Ryan Della tallied three goals in the stretch, while
Riley Strub and
Chris Wong each added a pair and Herraiz added his first tally. Della added his fourth goal of the frame to answer Stockton's fourth and set the halftime score, 14-4.
The third quarter saw just two goals scored, with
Brice Bromwell connecting with Strub for SU's 15th net-rustle.
Bret Bergey and
Kellen Smaw entered the scoring column to open the fourth, while four Sea Gulls –
Brayden Velasquez (aided by
Preston Huffman),
Jacob Gigliotti,
Jimmy Son and
Bishop Barnes – added to the total in the final 10 minutes before a late Osprey goal set the 21-7 final. Gigliotti's tally was his first goal as a Sea Gull.
GAME NOTES
- Ryan Della continued a dominant stretch with his second consecutive four-goal performance, adding an assist and putting eight of his 11 shots on target. Della has piled up 15 goals in SU's last four contests.
- Chris Wong also stoked a recent scoring blaze, logging three or more goals in his third straight effort and the fourth in his last five games, firing four goals on five shots while adding three ground balls. After Wednesday's efforts, Wong has tied his scoring total from last season in five fewer games.
- Ty Keaton finished with four points on pairs of goals and assists, putting all five of his shots on goal. Keaton has accumulated nine points on four goals and five assists through two games of CLC action.
- Riley Strub surpassed his goal total from 2024 against the Ospreys, picking up his 10th hat trick of the campaign to push his season total to 43.
- Connor Herraiz tallied four points on his 15th goal of the season and a trio of assists, good for his sixth consecutive outing with multiple assists.
- Charles Fritchman put together a stellar day as the top FOGO, winning 20 of his 23 attempts with 16 ground balls and adding one assist. Jimmy Son won six of his nine tries in relief, scooping six ground balls and adding his first career goal.
- Joe Buxbaum caused a pair of Osprey turnovers and added one ground ball.
- John DeFazio scooped four ground balls in the win.
- Nicholas Ransom (12-0) improved to 53-1 in his Sea Gull career, making three saves across the opening 30 minutes. Matt Sentowski handled third-quarter duties, while Alex Swartz and Aidan O'Connor wrapped up the final frame. Swartz made a pair of saves, while O'Connor added one Stockton stop.
- The Sea Gulls outshot the Ospreys 61-26, finished 19-of-19 on clears, won the ground ball battle 46-17 and won 26 of 32 faceoffs including a 13-0 sweep in the second quarter.
- With Wednesday's win, head coach Jim Berkman improves to 170-7 in conference play all-time.
