No. 9 Baseball rallies to conquer York (Pa.), 13-8

YORK, Pa. – The ninth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team erased an early deficit to blow past the York (Pa.) Spartans, winning 13-8 on Tuesday afternoon at Jaquet Field.

After giving up consecutive three-spots in the second and third to fall behind 6-0, the Sea Gulls came roaring back to take the lead with a seven-run fifth. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Jake Witter singled home one run and Max Ehrhardt singled home two more. After a popout and an error loaded the bases again, Noah Burroughs blasted a grand slam to right, vaulting SU ahead 7-6.

The Spartans tied it with one in the bottom of the fifth, then the teams traded a run each over the next two innings to make it 8-8. In the eighth, Trent Waire tripled to lead off and scored two batters later on a sac fly by Ehrhardt, giving Salisbury a 9-8 lead it would not relinquish.

The Sea Gulls built on the margin in the ninth. With two on and one out, Andrew Kell belted an RBI double, then Ben Anderson brought another home on a sac fly. Kell in turn scored on a wild pitch, then after a walk and a single Ehrhardt plated his fifth run of the game with a base hit, giving the game its final 13-8 margin.
