SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 8 Salisbury University softball program dropped a heartbreaking doubleheader against No. 3 Christopher Newport University Saturday afternoon inside Margie Knight Sea Gull softball stadium on Senior Day. The Sea Gulls fell 4-3 in 13 innings in game one, before falling 3-1 in game two. SU honored seniors
Jillian Dawson, Emily Challender, Rachel Keller, Emily Stockman, Taylor Scott, Ellen Stockman, and
Carrie Jacoby.
The game one thriller lasted three hours and 18 minutes, including four ties and four lead changes. The Captains grabbed the lead in the 4th inning before the Sea Gulls tied things up in the 6th.
Jacoby started the rally with a single to right-center field. Scott came in as a pinch runner and would later come around to score on an RBI single from El. Stockman to tie the game. Neither team could punch in a run until the 10th inning.
The teams traded scores in the 10th and 11th innings before CNU scored in the 13th inning, and the Sea Gulls failed to match it.
Sam Flowers earned the RBI in the 10th inning, and
Lexie Delcollo earned the RBI in the 11th inning off an RBI double.
The Sea Gulls earned their biggest chance of the ball game in the 8th inning, loading the bases with no outs. The Captains forced two groundouts and a flyout to get out of the inning.
Game One Notes

Sydney Adolfson went all 13 innings, allowing seven hits and no earned runs while posting four strikeouts.
- SU left 12 runners on base while CNU left 10.
- Challender finished with two hits, one of only two players between both teams in the game.
Offense also came at a premium in game two as the teams were scoreless through four innings of action. The Captains then posted two runs in the 5th and one in the 6th.
SU posted a run in the bottom of the 6th with Em. Stockman starting the rally with a single.
Hailey Burke would come in to pinch run and also come around to score off an RBI from
Morgan Moxley. The Sea Gull offense struggled to string hits together as the comeback fell short, leaving seven runners on base throughout the game.
Game Two Notes
- El. Stockman posted a two-hit game, while Dawson tallied a hit for her third consecutive game.
- Both teams finished with six hits and an error each.

Justyce Richard suffered her first loss of the season in the circle, giving up two earned runs on three hits.

Carly Angstadt made her long-awaited comeback in the circle, going three innings and earning three strikeouts.
The Sea Gulls will be back in action in the Coast-to-Coast Conference Tournament Championship beginning May 9th in Newport News, Va. in a single-elimination tournament. SU will battle Mary Washington at 2 p.m. on the campus of CNU, with the winner advancing to the Championship game to battle the Captains.
