No. 10 Softball drops heartbreaker in 2025 C2C Conference Title

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The No. 10 Salisbury University softball program routed Mary Washington 10-1 in the Coast-To-Coast Tournament Semifinals to advance to the title game against CNU, where they fell 9-5 in extra innings inside Captains Park.

In the Semifinal matchup, the Sea Gulls pounced on the Eagles early, posting four runs in the bottom of the first inning. All four runs came with two outs for SU, with Carrie Jacoby picking up two RBIs off a single, followed by a two-run home run from Karlie Wolfe into right center field.

The SU offense kept rolling in the third inning, posting six runs. Jillian Dawson led off the inning by bunting for a single. Jacoby and Wolfe both earned singles in the inning, but the big swing in the inning came from Madison Lepeonka, who blasted a three-run home run into centerfield.

Sydney Adolfson racked up her 19th win on the season with four strikeouts in three scoreless innings of work.

  • Jacoby finished with two hits and two RBIs.
  • Wolfe finished with two hits and three RBIs.
  • SU only left one runner on base while the Eagles stranded five.
In the Championship bout against Christopher Newport, the Sea Gull offense once again pounced early, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Emily Challender led off with a single, followed by another single from Dawson.

Challender would come around to score on an RBI bunt single from Ellen Stockman, while Dawson would score on a double steal, giving the Sea Gulls an early 2-0 lead. The Captains would regain the lead in the third inning, posting four runs.

The SU offense would chip away, adding a run in the fourth and fifth innings. Morgan Moxley earned an RBI on a sacrifice bunt in the 4th, scoring Lexie Delcollo, who singled earlier in the inning. In the fifth, Dawson roped a triple down the right field line, scoring Challender and tying the game.

CNU quickly regained the lead in the sixth inning, setting up a dramatic top of the seventh for the Sea Gulls down a run. Sam Flowers led off with a walk and would come around to score off an RBI double from El. Stockman, sending the game to extra innings.

SU went down in order in the top of the eighth while the Captains loaded the bases and ended the game on a walk-off grand slam, claiming the 2025 C2C Conference Tournament Title.

  • Dawson tallied a two-hit game with an RBI.
  • Delcollo also earned a two-hit game.
The Sea Gulls finish the season 33-6-1 and will discover their tournament destiny in the Division III selection show scheduled for Monday, May 12, at 11 a.m. on NCAA.com.
