Men’s Soccer blanks Ursinus to cap off Elmer Lord Memorial Tournament

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team catapulted itself to an early lead and never looked back against the Ursinus College Bears in a 2-0 win to secure their first victory of the season that wrapped up the Elmer Lord Memorial Classic on Saturday afternoon at the Gerry DiBartolo Sea Gull Soccer Complex.

The Sea Gulls had two chances come from Peter Beil in the opening 10 minutes, with the second shot going off the left post. Beil made another push inside the box and passed off for Liam Pierce, who blasted the setup into the back of the net to get the maroon and gold off and running.

After outshooting Ursinus 9-2 in the first half, Salisbury came out firing once to start the second half. Gavin Miller and Pierce were given back-to-back looks at the goal that were stopped by Ursinus' keeper Josiah Moore.

The Bears created a chance from Michael McCool that was stonewalled by Nate Jones and led to a counterattack from Austin Hofmann, who sent a crosser that David Brunetti sent into the upper 90 to give the Sea Gulls an insurance tally.

The Gulls would hold Ursinus to one shot on goal in the final 20 minutes, which was saved by Jones.
