Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Andrew Barbieri

Men’s Basketball rallies to get by Regent on Senior Day

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball program closed out the final seven minutes with a 23-10 run to earn a victory on Senior Day over the Regent University Royals on Saturday by a score of 72-68.

Before the game, the Sea Gulls honored Aidan Camper, Churchill Bounds, Daniel Oyediran, Jaylen Shippen and Leon Elung during Senior Day festivities.

The Royals (2-12) started the scoring with a made free throw just under two minutes into the game. Oyediran came down the following possession to get the Sea Gulls (9-7) on the board with a mid-range jumper that snowballed into the senior scoring 11 of the first 15 points for Salisbury, with the other buckets coming from Elung and Elijah Bryan.

Camper got the Gulls ahead 18-7 by knocking down a shot from distance, and Tyler Ball took a feed from Shippen to convert from downtown later in the frame. Five more points from Ball brought the Sea Gulls' lead to 30-19, then Ball found Patrick Wynne for three to make it 33-21 with 6:53 remaining in the stanza.

Regent clawed back and went on a 15-2 run close out the half to hold a 36-35 advantage at the break.

The Royals bolstered the lead up to nine through the first 13 minutes of the second session. The Maroon and Gold started to climb back with a Camper two-pointer and a three-point play after a made layup. Darrin Clark buried a triple to stop the Sea Gulls' spurt, but Bounds went on to score the next four points of the contest. Oyediran brought the deficit to one by cutting backdoor and slamming home a pass from Ball.

With Salisbury down three, Oyediran hit an elbow jumper and Bounds sank two free throws to give the Gulls their first lead since the 1:17 point in the first half. The Royals swiftly grabbed the lead back with a layup, but Bounds made a layup through traffic with 45 ticks remaining to get the Sea Gulls back on top.

Bounds came up with a steal on the ensuing possession and Camper walked up to the line and made both free throws after being fouled. Salisbury came up with another stand and Camper drilled two more from the charity stripe to put the game out of reach.
