Volleyball rolls Regent for Senior Day sweep

Sea Gulls snap five-match skid, carry 15-9 record into C2C Tournament

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University volleyball team snapped a five-match losing streak by rolling to a Senior Day sweep, 3-0 (25-10, 25-18, 25-21) over the Regent Royals, on Friday evening at the Maggs Physical Activities Center.

The Sea Gulls hit .500 in a dominant opening set, scoring 13 of the first 15 points on a 6-0 start and a 7-0 run to go up 13-2. Ellie Mitchell and Kiley McTaggart led the offense with five and four kills, respectively and SU racked up six blocks in the frame, closing it out 25-10 on a tandem stuff from Elizabeth Gordon and McTaggart.

In set two, Salisbury used a four-point string to build an 8-5 lead to 12-5. The Royals clawed back, though, getting as close as 16-14 after a block from Mia Wilson and Brooklynn Delane. After the teams traded a point each, the Sea Gulls answered with a five in a row to make it 22-15, with Tapia, and Amanda Meschi laying down two kills each in the stretch. SU eventually finished it, 25-18, on a kill and an ace from Tapia and an RU attack error.

The third set was a scrapper that saw the two teams tied 11 times with four lead changes. Knotted up at 19-19 late, Meschi and McTaggart landed back-to-back strikes to spark a 5-1 push to get it to match point. McTaggart eventually sealed the deal with a kill, locking down the sweep at 25-21.
