SALISBURY, Md. – The fourth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team flexed its muscle against another top-10 foe, charging through the sixth-ranked Gettysburg Bullets 15-6 on Wednesday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium.
After nearly seven minutes of stalemate,
Julianna Ott broke the deadlock with the game's first goal at the 8:13 mark, opening up the floodgates for a four-goal barrage that included tallies from
Miranda Mears, Ott again, and
Grace Milliron. After the Bullets answered with one by Daly, Milliron found the back of the net again to give SU a 5-1 advantage after the opening period.
Daly got Gettysburg on the board early in the second quarter, but Mears and Milliron countered with a goal each to make it 7-2. The teams traded one more marker each headed into halftime, with
Regan McDonnell giving the home side an 8-3 cushion at the break.
In the third, Mears punched two more home early to boost the Sea Gull lead to 10-3. Then after Daly notched her third goal of the game, SU hit the Bullets with a quick 1-2 combo on goals from
Audrey Harrington and McDonnell, pushing it to 12-4 after three.
Mears and Harrington each scored in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to make it 14-4 and trigger the running clock. Gettysburg didn't get the margin within single digits again until there were 19 seconds left, and the Sea Gulls came away with an impressive 15-6 dub.
