Softball posts split against Lynchburg

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University softball program posted a split against the University of Lynchburg Friday afternoon inside Margie Knight Sea Gull Softball Stadium to open up the Margie Knight Classic weekend. The Sea Gulls fell 4-2 in eight innings in game one before earning a five-inning win 10-2 in game two. 

In the game one extra innings loss against the Hornets, the Sea Gulls were held scoreless through the first four innings. Lynchburg tallied one run in the second and fourth innings, before Salisbury was able to tie things up with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. 

Lexie Delcollo and Sam Flowers got the party started with a pair of singles. Karlie Wolfe would earn two RBIs with a single to left center that tied the game. Both teams were scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings, sending the game into extras. 

The Hornets tallied two runs in the top of the eighth while the Sea Gulls could not respond. Madison McGinnis went over seven innings in the circle for the Sea Gulls with only two earned runs. 

Game One Notes
- Wolfe posted a two-hit game with her two RBIs.
- Alayna Gigliotti also tallied a two-hit game. 
- Both teams left nine runners on base while the Hornets posted six walks and the Sea Gulls only drew two. 

The SU offense came alive in the game two five-inning run rule victory. Salisbury scored 10 runs on 11 hits in the 10-2 victory. It was an eight-run third inning that lifted the Sea Gulls past the Hornets in game two. 

Lynchburg grabbed a 2-0 lead after scoring one run in the second and one in the third. The bottom of the third inning turned the game in favor of the Sea Gulls. Flowers earned an RBI off a single that scored Morgan Moxley, who singled earlier in the inning. Wolfe went on to blast a three-run home run to push SU ahead 4-2. Audrey March, Delcollo, and Moxley also earned RBIs in the inning. 

Wolfe racked up two more RBIs in the fourth inning that scored Camille Jones and Flowers, which opened up the chance to end the game in the fifth inning. Isabella Purdy tallied the win in the circle for the Sea Gulls with one strikeout and only one hit with no earned runs. 

Game Two Notes
- Wolfe finished with five RBIs on two hits in the game. She posted four hits and seven RBIs on the day. 
- The Sea Gulls only left one runner on base. 
- Salisbury tallied 10 hits in the game while holding the Hornets to just five. 

The Sea Gulls will head to Henry S. Parker for the rest of the Margie Knight Classic weekend with game one tomorrow starting at 1:30 p.m. against Randolph-Macon College followed by a battle with Muhlenberg College.
