Track & Field post strong day one during NCAA Indoor Championships

Hill earns All-American honors; Smith, Shaffer into finals

BIRMINGHAM, Al. - The Salisbury University opened up the Division III Indoor National Championships inside the Birmingham Crossplex in style. Mia Hill earned second team All-American honors in the long jump, while both Kai Smith and Gavin Shaffer earned a spot in the finals tomorrow. 

Hill placed 11th in the long jump at 5.49 meters (18-0 ¼) to earn the All-American honors. Smith earned a spot in the finals in both the 60-meter and 200-meter. His prelim 200-meter time of 21.09 was a school record and placed him second heading into the finals tomorrow. His 6.7 time in the 60-meter dash placed him fifth heading into the finals. Shaffer posted a time of 8.04 in the 60-meter hurdles to earn his spot in the finals, seeded sixth. 

The Sea Gulls wrap up the Division III Indoor National Championships inside the Birmingham Crossplex tomorrow with the schedule below.

Men's 60 Meter Hurdles (Shaffer - 10:40 a.m.), Men's 60/200 Meters (Smith 60-meter - 11:10 a.m./200-meter - 5:25 p.m.), Women's Triple Jump (Marlyse Haack - 2 p.m.)
