No. 2 Baseball sputters against Oswego State

SALISBURY, Md. – The second-ranked Salisbury University baseball team saw its engine sputter in a 10-2 loss to the Oswego State Lakers on Monday morning at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.

After the Lakers tallied one in the first inning, the Sea Gulls seesawed in front in the second when Trent Waire gulfed a two-run homer to right. SU held the lead until the fifth when OSU put together a two-out rally, tying things on a Harry Uvena single and going ahead 3-2 on a knock by Brendan Mair.

In the seventh the Lakers tacked on three more. Two early walks led to another RBI base hit by Uvena, then from third base Daniel Winchester beat a throw home on a fielder's choice grounder and Uvena scored on a passed ball to make it 6-2.

OSU put up another three-spot in the eighth and one more in the ninth to go up 10-2, and the Sea Gulls couldn't muster a rally in the late innings, allowing the Lakers to earn a split of the weekend's two-game set.
