FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The seventh-ranked Salisbury University baseball team saw its five-game winning streak come to the end against Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) rival Mary Washington, bowing to the Eagles 7-2 on Saturday afternoon at Dickinson Stadium.
The Sea Gulls scratched one across in the second inning as
Griffin Shirk singled,
Mickey Haynes bunted him up to second, and
Ethan Ruiz ripped an RBI base knock to put SU in front. The Eagles answered with two each in the next two frames, though, taking a 2-1 lead in the third on a Connor Hassa sac fly and adding on in the fourth on a two-run single by Oliver Marti that made it 4-1.
In the sixth, UMW got the first two men on and saw both score on a throwing error by the pitcher. Hassa provided one more exclamation point moments later with an RBI double to boost the margin to 7-1.
SU got one back in the seventh on a run-scoring double by
Nathan Tondreault, but it was too little, too late as Eagle pitching finished off the final two frames in quick fashion.
