SALISBURY, Md. – The ninth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team tagged three home runs to back up another strong pitching effort from
Aidan Brinsfield, ultimately rolling past the Marymount (Va.) Saints 10-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.
The Sea Gulls bolted in front 4-0 in the first inning, using a walk, single, and hit batsman to load the bases and set up
Trent Waire for a line drive to right that got up into the jet stream and over the fence for a grand slam. The Saints answered with an unearned run in the top of the second, but in the home second with men on second and third,
Max Ehrhardt hit a flyball deep enough to left to allow both runners to score on rare two-run sac fly, making it 6-1.
Quincy Via tagged a solo homer in the third to claw one back for MMU, then after the game fell into a stalemate Waire got that run back for SU in the fifth, tagging a two-out RBI single to center to reinforce the margin at 7-2.
Nathan Tondreault then cracked a two-run homer in the sixth, and two batters later
Jackson Inman went yard to right for a solo shot that got it to 10-2.
Brinsfield barely broke a sweat after eight strong innings on the hill, and
Garrett Beaver finished the Saints off with ease in the ninth, securing the victory in just a tick over two hours on a double play grounder hit in Waire's direction at short.
