Track & Field competes in Blue & Silver Challenge

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Salisbury University track & field program traveled to the campus of Christopher Newport University Saturday morning to compete in the Blue & Silver Challenge inside Townebank Stadium. The Sea Gulls could only travel a third of the team in vans as the wind prevented the bus from crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.

Meet Notes
  • Kai Smith took home gold in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.50. Smith also placed first in the 200-meter with a time of 20.91. Both times placed him in the top five in the country, while the 200 time sits second.
  • Gavin Shaffer also grabbed gold in the 110-meter hurdles at a time of 14.55, which places him in the top five in the nation for Division III. Jeremy Linden placed third at 16.27, while Ethan Strine tallied fifth at 16.56. Strine also placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.06.
  • Hayden Myers earned a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.17.
  • In the 1500-meter run, Marisa Servis placed second at 5:13.22. Kristen Riddell earned fourth at 5:29.17.
  • Jason Wolfenden tallied second in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:52.70. On the women's side, SU grabbed the top three spots and four in the top 10. Madi Sisson placed first with a time of 18:25.55, Leah Snyder earned second at 18:36.08, Camryn Russum tallied third at 18:45.05, and Savannah Trice placed seventh with a time of 20:35.62.
  • Logan Kelsch grabbed gold in the discus throw at 48.69 meters (159-09). Mason Breeze placed third at 45.86 meters (150-05). Both also tallied a top five in the hammer throw. Kelsch tallied third at 47.25 meters (155-00), while Breeze placed fifth at 45.52 meters (149-04).
  • Kailey Jarboe tallied fourth in the hammer throw at 37.14 meters (121-10). She also placed third in the shot put at 10.37 meters (34-00.25).
  • In the javelin, Zach Unger tallied third at 44.04 meters (144-06), while Evan Eickhoff placed fourth at 40.06 meters 131-05.
  • Jon Alicea earned third in the long jump with a jump of 6.18 meters (20-03.50). 
The Sea Gulls are back in action at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational on April 3rd-4th from Fairfax, Va.
