SALISBURY, Md. – Three Salisbury University student-athletes earned Jersey Mike's A Sub Above Player of the Week recognition alongside weekly honors from the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C).
Men's track & field's
Kai Smith made the most of his outdoor season debut with C2C Athlete of the Week laurels, while women's lacrosse's
Miranda Mears and
Paige Ellis locked down the team's latest C2C sweep.
Kai Smith | C2C Men's Track Athlete of the Week | Tenth Career (Third This Season)
Smith (Sr. – Upper Marlboro, Md.) won a pair of gold medals in the 100 meters (10.50, PR) and 200 meters (20.91) at the CNU Blue & Silver Challenge on Saturday. Both marks place Smith, who was a First-Team All-American in both events' indoor equivalents earlier this month, in the top six of NCAA Division III, with his 200-meter time tied for tops in the nation.
Miranda Mears | C2C Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week | Third Career (Second This Season)
Mears [Sr. – Salisbury, Md. (Parkside HS)] scored eight goals on eight shots on goal (10 total shots), plus two caused turnovers and two ground balls, in the Sea Gulls' pair of ranked wins for the week. On Monday against No. 22 Williams, she registered a hat trick as part of SU's 12-7 victory. Then on Saturday she helped lead a furious 14-10 comeback win over No. 7 York (Pa.) with five more goals. In both contests, Mears showed off her moves with behind-the-back tallies, including one to tie the game against YCP.
Paige Ellis | C2C Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week | Third Career (First This Season)
Ellis (Sr. – Fairfax, Va.) recorded five saves in each of Salisbury's victories over Williams and York, good for 10 saves in 105 minutes of action against ranked opponents. Ellis' 7.85 goals against average slots 31st-best in Division III and is a significant factor behind the Sea Gulls' 11-0 start.
