Smith named C2C Indoor Male Athlete of the Year

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University track & field program has seen student-athlete Kai Smith earn Coast-to-Coast Indoor Male Athlete of the Year for the 2025-26 season. Smith adds to the totals this indoor season after earning All-American honors in two different events at the Division III Indoor National Championships.

Smith tallied his All-American first-team honors in both the 60-meter and 200-meter events. He placed 3rd in the 60-meter with a time of 6.73 and earned 4th in the 200-meter with a time of 21.19. Smith took down his own school records in both events multiple times this indoor season. At the C2C Indoor Meet, Smith earned Male Track Athlete of the Meet and tallied gold in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.78, earning First-Team All-C2C. He also went on to earn Gold in the 200-meter with a time of 21.68.

Head coach Jim Jones was also recently named Mid-Atlantic Men's Region Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), spearheaded by a total of three male All-Americans and nine All-Region nods, with Smith leading the way in both categories.

Salisbury University is a proud member of NCAA Division III with primary membership in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference, along with affiliate membership in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (football, men's & women's swimming), Coastal Lacrosse Conference (men's lacrosse), State University of New York Athletic Conference (field hockey), and Colonial Women's Golf Conference (women's golf). With over 500 student-athletes in 23 varsity sports, SU is recognized as one of the nation's most competitive intercollegiate athletics programs regardless of division, featuring dedicated coaches and staff that foster excellence on and off the field. The Sea Gulls have won a combined 23 team national championships, 24 individual national championships, and 207 conference championships, and have produced 54 Academic All-Americans.
