No. 3 Women’s Lacrosse swarms Shenandoah in home victory

SALISBURY, Md. – A 9-2 third quarter propelled the third-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team to an 18-6 win against the Shenandoah University Hornets inside Sea Gull Stadium for Salisbury's One Love Game on Saturday afternoon.

The Sea Gulls (6-0) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one quarter of play. Miranda Mears tallied a pair of goals to start the affair, and Audrey Harrington found twine with under three minutes left in the frame. Paige Ellis rejected two shots from the Hornets (5-1) in the opening segment.

The Gulls extended the unanswered streak to five before Shenandoah countered with two markers from Emily Ransom. Mears completed a first-half hat trick, and Lauren Hackett got on the board as the Maroon and Gold went into halftime ahead 5-2.

After allowing the first score of the second half, the Sea Gulls outscored the Hornets 9-1 in an 11:53 span of game action. Regan McDonnell scored three goals during the run; Julianna Ott added two, and Harrington, Mears, Avery Dunbar, and Lily Schurr added tallies to force a running clock.

Salisbury outpaced Shenandoah 4-2 in the final stanza to hold onto the double-digit advantage. Mears and McDonnell capped off their offensive performances by finding twine in the fourth quarter, while Lucy Michaels and Avery Starowicz both found the back of the cage.
