No. 7 Men’s Lacrosse opens CLC play with win over Stockton

SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 7 Salisbury University men's lacrosse program opened up Coastal Lacrosse Conference action with an 18-11 win over Stockton University on Wednesday afternoon inside Sea Gull Stadium.

The Ospreys (8-4, 0-2 CLC) struck first just two minutes into the contest. Not even a minute later, the Sea Gulls (10-2, 1-0 CLC) evened it up with a man-up goal from Bret Bergey that was assisted by Connor Herraiz. This was the first goal of a first-quarter hat trick for Bergey as the teams headed to the second quarter of action tied 3-3.

Salisbury was able to gain a two-goal lead early in the second after goals from Kellen Smaw and Trent Lucovich in a matter of a minute. After a Stockton goal to bring the lead back to one, Riley Strub and Lucovich found the back of the net to extend the lead to three. The Ospreys would finish the half on a 3-0 run, sending the game tied 7-7 at the halftime break.

The Sea Gulls came out of the locker room clicking on all cylinders, starting the third quarter on a 4-0 run and going on to outscore the Ospreys 6-1 for the quarter. Salisbury outshot Stockton 19-2 during the third quarter, with goals from Lucovich and Preston Huffman, while Strub and Herraiz tallied two each.

The Gulls distanced themselves from the Ospreys with a 5-3 fourth quarter. Huffman began the quarter with a goal, then Michael DeSano saved a ground ball on the sideline and fed it ahead to Lucovich who evaded Stockon goalie Ben Blum and deposited into an empty net. The Ospreys scored the next three tallies before Strub, Bergey and Herraiz responded to ice the game.
