STEVENSON, Md. - The Salisbury University softball program earned a midweek sweep over Stevenson University on Wednesday afternoon to conclude a four-game road stand. The Sea Gulls (16-10) tallied a six-inning 10-2 run-rule victory in game one before escaping past the Mustangs (11-15) 5-4 in game two.
Salisbury was able to outhit Stevenson 13-2 in game one, a 10-2 six-inning victory, scoring in every inning but the top of the first.
Audrey March blasted a solo shot in the top of the second to get the scoring started before
Lexie Delcollo earned an RBI double, scoring
Michalea Troy, who had doubled in the previous at-bat.
The Sea Gulls opened the game up with five runs in the third.
Sam Flowers started the inning with a walk, which was followed by singles from
Courtney Johnson and
Karlie Wolfe.
Alayna Gigliotti tallied a two-RBI single before March blasted her second home run of the game, this time a three-run homer.
The Sea Gulls went on to post one run in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. March added two more RBIs in that span, while
Madison Lepeonka tallied a hit.
Madison McGinnis earned the win in the circle for Salisbury, posting three innings with one run given up and two strikeouts.
Game One Notes
- This was the sixth win of the season for McGinnis. Brooklyn Richardson also posted three innings of work and allowed only one hit and one run.
- March finished with a perfect four for four at the plate with two home runs, six RBIs, and a double.
- Morgan Moxley, Camille Jones, and Flowers all tallied hits.
- Salisbury left four runners on base while Stevenson stranded four.
In the game two win, Salisbury out-hit Stevenson 10-3, earning the 5-4 victory. The Sea Gull offense posted one run in the first, second, and fourth, while adding two in the fifth.
Wolfe earned an RBI double in the first, scoring Johnson, who had singled beforehand. Flowers earned the RBI in the second, and Delcollo earned the RBI in the fourth.
Gigliotti earned an RBI triple in the fifth and would come around to score on a wild pitch to extend the Salisbury lead to 5-0. Stevenson responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to tighten the game late.
McGinnis was able to come in for the seventh inning and shut the door on the Mustangs. They posted a two-out rally and tallied one run to make it interesting.
Carly Angstadt earned the win in the circle for the Sea Gulls, with
Vita Waddell and
Hannah Derbyshire also seeing action in the circle.
Game Two Notes
- Johnson, Flowers, and Delcollo posted two-hit games for the Sea Gulls.
- Grace Couch, McKenna Horner, and Delcollo tallied stolen bases for SU.
- Salisbury left four runners on base while Stevenson stranded a total of 10 runners.
The Sea Gulls are back inside Margie Knight Stadium on Saturday, April 18th, Â to take on the University of Mary Washington with game one of the doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. from Margie Knight Sea Gull Softball Stadium. This begins a four-game home stand for Salisbury, which includes Alumni Day and Senior Day next weekend.
