SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University softball program earned a clean sweep over the University of Mary Washington Saturday afternoon inside Margie Knight Sea Gull Softball Stadium. The Sea Gulls (18-10) earned a run-rule 9-1 win in six innings during game one, before sliding past the Eagles (16-18) 4-2 in game two.
In game one, the SU offense struggled to get rolling early. Salisbury was held scoreless through three innings, while UMW earned a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, which would be their only run of the ball game. The Salisbury offense tallied nine runs in the final three innings of the game, including five in the fourth.
Courtney Johnson started the rally with a single, followed by a two-run home run from
Karlie Wolfe.
Alayna Gigliotti roped a double in the next at bat and would score off the second two-run homerun of the inning for the Sea Gulls, this one from
Audrey March.
Morgan Moxley capped off the inning with an RBI double, scoring
Lexie Delcollo, who singled in the previous at-bat.
March continued her stellar day and week with a three-run home run in the fifth inning, giving the Sea Gulls a commanding 8-1 lead.
Sam Flowers blasted a triple into right-center field that scored the winning run to walk the game off in the sixth in run-rule fashion.
Madison McGinnis earned the win in the circle for SU, with one run given up and allowing only three hits. She also posted two strikeouts.
Brooklyn Richardson also tallied two innings in the circle and only allowed two hits.
Game One Notes
- McGinnis tallied her seventh win of the season in the circle.
- March finished with five RBIs on two hits and two runs scored, both coming from her home runs.
- Salisbury only stranded two runners on base, while Mary Washington left eight runners on base.

Madison Lepeonka and
Merry Pavlik also earned hits in the ball game.
In game two, McGinnis earned her second win of the day, going the final two innings of the ball game after Mary Washington was able to tie the game late.
Isabella Purdy held the Eagles at bay for four scoreless innings and only allowed one hit with three strikeouts.
Salisbury earned an early 2-0 lead in the second inning off a
Michalea Troy RBI double, and a Flowers walk that scored Troy. The Eagles tied the game in the top of the fifth before the Sea Gulls were able to immediately regain the lead in the bottom of the inning.
Johnson singled to get things rolling and would be pinch-run for by
Jillian McTamney, who would come around to score off a throwing error after a double from Wolfe, which proved to be the winning run.
Game Two Notes
- The teams combined to leave 13 runners stranded on base.
- Troy posted a two-hit game.
- Flowers tallied a two-RBI game.
