Softball falls to No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University softball program dropped both games against No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan University on Wednesday afternoon inside Margie Knight Sea Gull Softball Stadium. The Marlins (38-0) took game one 9-0, before ending game two in five innings over the Sea Gulls 12-3 (18-12).

In the 9-0 game one loss, Sam Flowers and Courtney Johnson had the lone hits for the Sea Gulls. Brooklyn Richardson posted three consecutive shutout innings in the circle before giving up four in the sixth.

Salisbury only trailed 3-0 through the first five innings of action before the Marlins tallied six runs in the final two innings of action to pull away.

In the 12-3 game two loss, the Marlins tallied seven runs in the third inning to open the game up. Salisbury tallied two of their three runs in the bottom of that inning, with two RBIs from the reigning NFCA National Player of the Week, Audrey March.

The third run for SU came from a solo home run from Karlie Wolfe in the 5th inning. Wolfe finished with a three-hit game while Flowers and March tallied two hits each. Lexie Delcollo also earned a hit in game two.

Salisbury is right back inside Margie Knight Stadium for a busy upcoming weekend. The Sea Gulls will host Ursinus College on Saturday for Alumni Day, with game one set for 1 p.m. Alumni recognition will be held before game two. Senior Day will be on Sunday before game one against York College (Pa.). The first pitch of game one is also set for 1 p.m.
