Softball sweeps Ursinus on Alumni Day

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University softball program earned a clean sweep over Ursinus College Saturday afternoon inside Margie Knight Sea Gull Softball Stadium on Alumni Day. The Sea Gulls (20-12) took game one 9-4, before cruising past the Bears (12-26) 7-1 in game two.

In the 9-4 game one win, Brooklyn Richardson earned her first career win in the circle as a Sea Gull. Richardson tallied just over six innings of work, with one strikeout, and allowed only one run on three hits.

The Bears tallied a 4-0 lead early, before the Sea Gulls responded with four runs in the bottom of the second inning to tie things up. Merry Pavlik roped a three RBI double into centerfield to clear the bases and get SU on the board. Karlie Wolfe earned a SAC fly to tie things up. Lexie Delcollo and Sam Flowers also picked up hits in the inning.

The offense kept rolling for the Sea Gulls in the third, with five runs, which proved to be the final runs of the game from both sides. Alayna Gigliotti led off the inning with a single and would score, along with Morgan Moxley, on a Ursinus error. Flowers added another hit, and Courtney Johnson tripled later in the inning to add to the totals for SU.

Game One Notes
  • The teams combined for 18 hits, with the Sea Gulls claiming 10 of those.
  • Five of the eight hits for the Bears came in the first inning of action.
  • The teams also combined to leave 15 runners on base, with SU stranding seven runners.
  • Flowers finished with a two-hit game, a run, and a stolen base.
  • Lacie Donovan, Audrey March, Michalea Troy, and Madison Lepeonka all tallied hits for the Sea Gulls.
  • Johnson was hit by pitch three times.
In the 7-1 game two win, Isabella Purdy earned her eighth win of the season after entering the game in the fourth inning with the bases loaded and no outs. The Bears would only be able to manage one run from that situation, their lone run of the game. Purdy finished with two innings of work, no hits, and one strikeout.

Carly Angstadt started the game, going three innings with one earned run, one hit, and three strikeouts. Vita Waddell also earned two innings with one strikeout and one hit given up.

The Salisbury offense kept the momentum rolling from the opening game into the second. The game was held scoreless for the first three innings of action before the SU offense started to click. March and Troy earned RBI doubles for the two runs in the fourth to regain the lead.

SU tallied five runs in the fifth to open the game up. McKenna Horner led off the inning with a single and would score off a two RBI double from Gigliotti that also scored Johnson. March followed that up with a two-run home run. Lepeonka added a double and would score on a Delcollo RBI single to wrap up the inning.

  • March and Gigliotti tallied two-hit games. March finished with three RBIs, and Gigliotti posted two.
