NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team competed in nearly every fixture but left with little to show for it in a 6-1 defeat at the 27th-ranked Christopher Newport Captains on Saturday afternoon at Eyre Courts.
MATCH NOTES
- The Captains secured all three doubles tilts despite stiff challenges from the Sea Gulls in the top two lines. In first doubles, Gurv Suri and Aron Bursztyn fell just short, 7-6 (7-3). In second doubles, Nicholas O'Dea and Bobby Stabile came even closer, dropping a 7-6 (7-5) decision.
- Stabile earned SU's only point on the afternoon in fourth singles, sweeping CNU's Ivan Ceric 7-5, 6-2.
- Suri took first singles to three sets, ultimately bowing 2-6, 6-0, 6-3.
- Bursztyn endured a razor-thin defeat in fifth singles, falling 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (8-6).
The Sea Gulls will complete their Virginia weekend on Sunday morning at Virginia Wesleyan, with first serve from Virginia Beach pegged for 11 a.m.
