NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team showed fight at the top of the table but ultimately endured a 7-0 defeat to the 40th-ranked Christopher Newport Captains on Saturday afternoon at Eyre Courts.
MATCH NOTES
- The Captains rolled through doubles play by winning all three matches. Gibelle Beaujon and Cleo Solomon fared best in first doubles, capturing three games despite ending up on the wrong side of a 6-3 decision.
- Beaujon took first singles to three sets and nearly knocked off CNU's Kylie Schaefer, but Schaefer held on to take it by a 6-0, 1-6, 6-4 score.
- Solomon snagged the first set of second singles before ultimately bowing 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 1-0 (10-7).
The Sea Gulls will wrap up the regular season on Sunday morning at Virginia Wesleyan, with first serve from Virginia Beach slated for 11 a.m.
