Softball splits road doubleheader against No. 19 Stockton

GALLOWAY, N.J. - The Salisbury University softball program split a doubleheader on the road against No. 19 Stockton University on Friday afternoon at Osprey Field. Salisbury took game one 5-0, before the 7-3 loss in game two that was halted due to darkness after six innings.

The Sea Gulls (13-9) used a game-one dominant performance from Isabella Purdy in the circle, who dealt the Ospreys (18-2) a complete game shutout. Purdy tallied four strikeouts in her seven innings, while only allowing four hits. This was the first time Stockton had been shut out all year.

The game remained scoreless for the first three innings of action. The Salisbury offense tallied two in the fourth with a lead-off single from Karlie Wolfe. Alayna Gigliotti laid down a SAC bunt to move Wolfe over before Grace Couch came on to pinch run.

After walks from Audrey March and Merry Pavlik, the Sea Gulls had bases loaded with one out. Lexie Delcollo earned a SAC fly RBI, which was followed by an RBI single from Morgan Moxley. Salisbury tallied another run in the fifth with Gigliotti earning an RBI single that scored Sam Flowers, who had walked to lead the inning off.

Two more insurance runs came flooding in for Salisbury in the seventh. Michalea Troy tallied a two-RBI single to help extend the Sea Gull lead late and earn the 5-0 ranked win.
