Softball earns road split against Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Salisbury University softball program earned a midweek road split against Messiah University on Wednesday afternoon at the Starry Softball Field. The Sea Gulls (14-10) soared to a game-one win in five innings, 13-3, before falling in game two against the Falcons (16-10), 10-6.

In the opening run-rule five-inning win, Salisbury tallied 15 hits in the 13-3 win that included 14 RBIs. The SU bats were hot out of the gate, posting three runs in the top of the first inning. Sam Flowers led the game off with a single and would come around to score on a two-run homer from Courtney Johnson. Karlie Wolfe followed that up with a solo home run, propelling the Sea Gulls to a 3-0 lead.

Messiah responded with two in the bottom of the first and one in the second to tie the game. This would be the last runs of the ball game for the Falcons. Salisbury posted four runs in the third and fourth innings before adding two in the fifth to end the game early.

Michalea Troy earned two RBIs in the third, while Lexie Delcollo and Morgan Moxley tallied an RBI each. Johnson, Troy, and Delcollo also earned RBIs in the fourth. Alayna Gigliotti and Wolfe posted RBIs in the sixth.
