Robb Disbennett enters his 35th season in 2025 on the Salisbury football staff and his 24th as the team’s defensive coordinator. This past season, he was presented with the prestigious Bobby Richards award.
Disbennett leads one of the top defenses in not only the New Jersey Athletic Conference but the entire nation. Disbennett spearheaded a defensive unit that consistently ranks in the top-50 in the nation with a top-10 defense in 2018.
The 2019 defensive unit ranked 30th in the country in total defense and ninth in rushing defense with Sean Carroll earning All-American honors from D3football.com.
In 2018, Disbennett led the fourth-ranked rushing defense in the country, holding opponents to 60.5 rushing yards per game. The defense also sat 15th in the country in scoring defense, only allowing 12.5 points per contest and giving up 20-plus points twice in 11 games.
During 2017, Disbennett helped lead a defense that allowed an average of 276.5 yards per game, which ranked 23rd in the country. The defense surrendered a 105.5 rushing yards per game mark which ranked in the top 50 in the nation.
In 2016, Disbennett led Salisbury to the 49th ranked defense in the nation, holding opponents to less than 300 yards on five different occasions during the season. The Sea Gulls ranked second in the New Jersey Athletic Conference in rushing defense, allowing just 116.1 yards per game on the ground.
A former All-American quarterback at SU, Disbennett led the Sea Gulls to two NCAA tournament appearances (1983 and 1985) and graduated with most of the team passing records in tow. Disbennett still claims the following records at SU: most touchdown passes in a season and career, highest completion percentage for a season, and most consecutive passes completed. Disbennett previously served as the team’s offensive coordinator when Salisbury finished 14th in the nation in passing (1993, 1994). In 1996, he was inducted into the SU Athletic Hall of Fame.
