TOWSON, Md. - The No. 6 Salisbury University
field hockey team got back to its winning ways on Tuesday afternoon
here with a solid 11-0 defeat of Capital Athletic Conference
opponent Goucher College.
The Sea Gulls (10-3, 3-1 CAC) outshot the Gophers 46-1 and
received balance scoring as eight different players scored one goal
or more in the victory.
Senior Lynette Sgrignoli and freshman
Lauren Correll were the multiple goal-scorers with
two goals scored apiece, all in the first half, as Salisbury led
8-0 at the half.
The win snaps a three-game losing streak for Salisbury, the
first such streak since 1993, and earns them a much needed
conference win.
Senior Megan Powell (1 goal, 1 assist) scored
the game's first goal four minutes into the game off a Tracey Lloyd
(1g, 2a) assist. SU went onto score four goals in a 10 minute span
to close out the first half as Correll, Abby Rowe,
Sgrignoli and Beverly Beladino all found the back
of the cage.
SU goalie Maria Ramoundos played the first half
as Erin Keenan closed out the game in the second
half. Goucher (1-9, 0-4 CAC) had no shots in the second half.
Salisbury returns home this weekend at 1 p.m., Saturday, October
