Overview
Head coach Dawn Chamberlin took over as head coach at Salisbury State in 1987, one year after winning a national championship as an assistant. Flash forward to Year 17 and her first title as top dog and first in a run of three rings in a row.
Facing Middlebury in the final round, Tracey Lloyd got the Sea Gulls on the board in the sixth minute, with Brittany Elliott adding on another six minutes later. After conceding one to the Panthers and taking a 2-1 lead into halftime, Brittany and Lindsey Elliott deposited two in the cage within five minutes of each other midway through the second half. Melissa Taylor’s seven saves were more than enough to put the championship on ice for SU.
After holding off Mary Washington 3-2 for the CAC title, Salisbury bested Mount Holyoke (2-0) and Messiah (4-1) to earn a trip to the Final Four. Against TCNJ in the semifinals, Lindsey Elliott’s 15th-minute snipe was enough to secure a 1-0 win and punch SU’s first ticket to the final since 1986.
