WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Salisbury University
volleyball team brought home a second place finish in the Green
Terror Invitational this weekend at McDaniel College, as it posted
a 3-1 record, and senior Abbey Petrecca was named
to the all-tournament team.
On Saturday, the Sea Gulls (19-10, 4-1 CAC) swept their two matches
against McDaniel College and Valley Forge Christian with identical
3-0 wins.
SU split its two matches on Friday evening with a 3-0 defeat of
Old Westbury before a tough 3-2 loss to Bridgewater College, the
eventual tournament champion.
In the five-game match against Bridgewater, SU's Petrecca and
Stacey Krebs shined as the two
finished with 55 assists and 20 kills, respectively. It wasn't
enough as Bridgewater took the Sea Gulls in five games, 26-30,
30-21, 24-30, 30-23 and 13-15.
In the three Salisbury victories, no team got within five points
of defeating the Sea Gulls, and four times the Gulls held their
opponent under 15 points. Petrecca totaled 82 assists and Krebs
finished with 35 kills in the three Sea Gull victories.
In support, Rachel Downes notched six kills
against Valley Forge Christian and added six service aces.
Salisbury will return to the friendly confines of Maggs
Gymnasium on Wednesday, October 18, as it hosts York College in a
Capital Athletic Conference match.
