ARLINGTON, Va. - First place in the Capital
Athletic Conference was one game away for the Salisbury University
volleyball team before the Sea Gulls dropped the final two games to
Marymount University on Tuesday night to lose 3-2 on the road.
Salisbury (20-12, 5-2 CAC) won the first game 30-28, after being
down 11-1, and the third game 30-20 before it lost focus serving
the ball as the Gulls committed 26 total service errors in the
match. Marymount (20-6, 7-0 CAC) rallied behind strong digging and
serving to close out the match and secure the top-seed for the
upcoming CAC tournament that begins next week.
The Saints won the five-game match by the score of 28-30, 30-27,
20-30, 30-21, 15-9.
The Sea Gulls drop to 5-2 in the conference and will have to
wait and see the result of the Catholic-Gallaudet game before
knowing what seed they will receive for the CAC tourney.
Salisbury senior Abbey Petrecca had 51 assists, 11 kills and 15
digs in the match to pace the Gulls. Sophomore Stacey Krebs tallied
a double-double as she made 19 digs and 13 kills and added three
blocks. Freshman Nicole Massarelli and sophomore Lucy Rushing made
16 and 14 kills, respectively, and fellow sophomore Jaime Marzocchi
racked up a team-high 29 digs in defeat.
