GLASSBORO, N.J. - The Salisbury University
women's soccer team dropped its second consecutive game 2-0 to
Rowan University on Wednesday afternoon on the road. The Profs
(10-0-2) have now won three of the last four meetings with the Sea
Gulls (3-5-1) dating back to the 2002 season.
Rowan's Krista Verzi broke the scoreless tie in the 59th minute
on a goal that deflected off a Salisbury defender to give the Profs
the 1-0 lead. Twenty minutes later, Jackie Kane scored off an
assist by Karen Patruno to put Rowan up 2-0.
The Profs defense placed the clamps on the Sea Gull offense in
the second half as SU didn't record a shot on goal. Salisbury had
two shots on goal for the entire game. Rowan also took three more
corners, 6-3, then Salisbury.
Salisbury goalie Samantha Phipps recorded six
saves on the eight shots she faced.
The Sea Gulls return to action at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 7,
as they travel to Fredericksburg, Va., to face the University of
Mary Washington in a Capital Athletic Conference game.
